Semonto 1.0 is released!

CodingMammoth is proud to show you Semonto. Semonto is the abbreviation for “Server Monitoring Tool”.

With Semonto, you can be alerted when a service on your server isn’t working correctly. Semonto will test your server continuous and can alert you via mail, Twitter, SMS-messages and much more. There are more then 15 default tests available but you can also implement your own tests! A status-page is available for your server, just like an extended history center with the results of all performed tests and a logbook.

  • Semonto: Graphical month overview

When you have a host checked by Semonto (our Server Monitor Tool, see: Semonto.com), it can be use-full to have a graphical overview of the status of your server.

    sem_overview_gra.png

Like you can see: if you see a lot of red/blue or orange colors, you should try to improve your webserver. When you click on a day, you can see the exact problems on that day.

The host given as example is running on an unstable VPS.

This ‘graphical’ overview is available for every host checked by Semonto.

Please see Semonto.com for more information.

    Semonto: current prices

Semonto (Server Monitor Tool – see Semonto.com) use a simple formula for calculating the prices.
With Semonto, you need to pay for a maximum capacity, expressed as the maximum tests per hour.

For example, a maximum capacity of 100 tests per hour.
With a maximum capacity of 100 tests per hour, you will be able to perform 25 tests every 15 minutes. A ping-test or port-check is for example 1 test.

If you have interests in Semonto, you can ask a free trial for 1 month. This free trial has a limit of a maximum of 25 tests per hour, this is equal to 6 tests every 15 minutes. 6 tests is enough for a ping-test, a port-check, a database and load-test.

For 3 euro the month, you have a maximum capacity of 50 tests per hour (= 1 200 tests per day), 5 euro for 100 tests per hour (=2 400 tests per day), 10 euro for 250 tests per hour (=6 000 tests per day), 15 euro for 500 tests per hour (=12 000 test per day).

    Tests Price
    50 3 None SMSs included
    100 5 2 SMSs included
    250 10 5 SMSs included
    500 15 10 SMSs included

I guess that this prices are acceptable.
Please note that this prices are exclusive the prices for send SMS-messages (if you enable this feature).
At the beginning, the price for a single SMS will be 0.20 euro.

    Semonto: Extended ‘check’ policy

    Hi

I’ve changed the check-policy of Semonto. Semonto, which stands for Server Monitor Tool.

Before, Semonto send a mail at the moment a test failed… but sometimes, you could receive a mail while everything is okay during a little high load etc…

I’ve fixed this problem with integrating a buffer. If Semonto notice a problem with your host, Semonto will put your host in a buffer and recheck your host after 3 minutes. If the host still giving problems (slow, unavailable, …), Semonto will send a notice to you.

    Below a little scheme:

    schema.png

When Semonto notice some problems in both checks, Semonto will send you a mail or a SMS (international).

Please see Semonto.com for more details.
You can request a free demo of Semonto for your own website.

    Semonto and the webtraffic

A big deal is the traffic generated by the server monitor (Semonto).

To show you the traffic generated by Semonto, I want to show a part of my logbook (Awstats).

Visitor Pages Hits Data-traffic Last visit
    Semonto.com 10314 10314 59.36 KB 30 Nov 2008 – 01:01

You see it good: 10314 tests = 59.36 KB traffic!
This is about 6-8 bytes per test…

So, the traffic isn’t a big deal!

    Semonto!

Semonto? euh? Semonto stands for: Server monitor tool. It is a web-application, running on a Debian server.

Semonto is simply a server monitor, it has 3 kinds of tests.

    • Port checks: Simply checks if a port is connectable from the world wide web
    • Internal checks: Is the database-server running? Is the load okay?, is the disk full?
    • Ping test and the ping-time (min/avg/max – time)

With Semonto, you have an own Admin Panel (SAP: Semonto Admin Panel). With this SAP, you can add/edit hosts and select the tests you want to perform. Every combination is possible. (In the future, you will be able to perform custom tests).

    Semonto Ports.png

When there is a problem with a server (high ping, database-offine etc), you will receive a mail-message or optionally a SMS-message!

With Semonto, you can also share your current server statistics (useful four your customers). Simply create an alias and provide the URL to your customers. For example: the status page of CodingMammoth.

Please notice that the Semonto GUI is a draft on this moment. I’m busy with finishing the core of Semonto but I’ve released an alfa version so you can monitor your servers right now with Semonto!
